  • 1 bag tortilla chips about 12 oz
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup cooked ground beef or shredded chicken optional
  • 1/2 cup sliced jalapenos fresh or pickled
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions or scallions
  • 1/2 cup black beans optional
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • fresh cilantro for garnish

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Spread half of the tortilla chips on a large baking sheet or oven-safe platter.
  3. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese evenly over the chips.
  4. Add half of the meat, beans, jalapenos, tomatoes, and onions over the cheese.
  5. Layer the remaining chips on top, followed by the rest of the cheese and toppings.
  6. Bake in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 2 minutes.
  8. Top with sour cream, salsa, fresh cilantro, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Keep wet toppings like salsa and sour cream on the side until serving to prevent sogginess.
  • You can prep ahead by assembling the chips and cheese, then bake and add toppings right before serving.
