Ingredients

Meatballs
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
Gravy
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp soy sauce

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and allspice until just combined.
  2. Roll the mixture into small balls using clean hands. Place them on a plate so they are ready to cook.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Add the meatballs and cook, turning gently, until browned on all sides.
  4. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set them aside on a clean plate.
  5. In the same skillet, sprinkle in the flour and stir for one minute until smooth and lightly golden.
  6. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Let the sauce thicken for a few minutes.
  7. Add the cream and soy sauce. Stir well and let the sauce simmer until silky.
  8. Return the meatballs to the skillet. Spoon sauce over them and simmer for 10 minutes until fully cooked.

Notes

Do not overmix the meat to keep the texture tender. Let the sauce simmer gently. For deeper flavor, add Dijon mustard or a touch of Worcestershire sauce to the mixture.
