Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 potatoes sliced thinly
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 can tomato sauce 15 oz
Spices
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper optional, for extra heat

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • 9x13 baking dish
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any extra grease.
  3. Add chopped onions and garlic to the beef and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until soft and fragrant.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, chili powder, and paprika. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
  5. In your baking dish, layer half the sliced potatoes, then half the beef mixture, then half the cheese.
  6. Repeat the layers and finish with a sprinkle of cheese on top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, then uncover and bake another 10 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  8. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. This helps the layers set perfectly.

Notes

Swap in ground turkey for a leaner version or add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra color and texture. For more heat, increase the cayenne or add firecracker seasoning.
