Ingredients

Yakiniku Beef
  • 450 g beef sirloin thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp green onions sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds for garnish
For Serving
  • 2 cups cooked rice warm

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Knife

Method

  1. Slice the beef very thin so it cooks quickly and stays tender.
  2. Mince the garlic and grate the fresh ginger.
  3. In a small bowl mix the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger to create the yakiniku sauce.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat and add the sesame oil.
  5. Add the sliced beef in a single layer and cook for about 2 to 3 minutes until lightly browned.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet and stir so the beef absorbs the flavor.
  7. Cook another 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef.
  8. Spoon warm rice into bowls, top with the beef, and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

You can substitute ground beef if sliced beef is not available. Simply cook the ground beef until browned, drain excess fat, and then add the sauce. The recipe also works well with added vegetables like bell peppers, snap peas, or cabbage for extra texture and color.
