Ingredients

Teriyaki Beef
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 preferred
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
For Serving
  • 2 cups cooked white rice warm
  • 2 stalks green onions sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds toasted, optional

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. Mince the garlic, grate the ginger, and slice the green onions. Separate the white and green parts of the onions.
  2. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, and rice vinegar. Stir well and set aside.
  3. Heat neutral oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and break it into small pieces while cooking for about 4 minutes, until no pink remains.
  4. Add the garlic, ginger, and white parts of the green onions. Stir constantly for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the sauce mixture. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until the glaze thickens and coats the beef.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the sesame oil.
  7. Divide warm rice into bowls. Spoon the teriyaki beef and sauce over the rice. Garnish with green onion tops and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For a spicy version, add red pepper flakes or sriracha to the sauce. You can also add vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or snap peas while cooking the beef.
