Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes (15 oz)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1.5 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup orzo pasta uncooked
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese grated, for topping
  • salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic. Stir and cook for about 3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  3. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and beef broth. Stir in Italian seasoning and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Add the orzo and stir well to combine. Ensure the pasta is fully coated in the tomato mixture.
  5. Cover and let it simmer for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is al dente and most of the liquid is absorbed.
  6. Remove from heat, sprinkle with Parmesan, and let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

To customize this dish, consider swapping beef for turkey or chicken, adding spinach or peas, or stirring in a spoonful of ricotta at the end. Add red pepper flakes for spice, or top with avocado dip for a creamy twist.
