Casserole Base
  • 4 cups fresh green beans trimmed and cut
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese divided
Topping
  • 1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions
  • 1 tbsp butter for greasing dish

Equipment

  • Baking Dish
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Pot

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a medium baking dish with butter.
  2. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for about 5 minutes until just tender. Drain well.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  4. Add the cooked green beans and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Stir gently to coat everything evenly.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese over the top and bake for 20 minutes until hot and bubbly.
  7. Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the crispy fried onions over the top.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for another 5 to 8 minutes until the onions are golden and crunchy.

Notes

You can substitute frozen or canned green beans if fresh are not available. For extra flavor, add sauteed mushrooms or crispy bacon bits before baking. Always add the fried onions near the end so they stay crunchy.
