Meat Filling
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables carrots, peas, corn
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp ketchup for sweet sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup beef broth
Mashed Potato Topping
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter

Method
 

  1. Heat a large pan over medium heat. Add butter, then garlic and onion. Cook until soft and fragrant.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, ketchup, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix well.
  4. Pour in beef broth and simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Add mixed vegetables and cook for another 3 minutes.
  6. Mix mashed potatoes with milk and butter until smooth and creamy.
  7. Spread the beef mixture into a baking dish, then layer mashed potatoes on top.
  8. Use a fork to create ridges on the potatoes.
  9. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden on top.

Notes

Let the filling thicken properly before baking to avoid a watery pie. You can add cheese on top for extra flavor.
