Ingredients

Meatballs
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
Honey Garlic Sauce
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
Serving
  • 1 cup white rice cooked, for serving
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • sesame seeds for garnish

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. In a large bowl combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and soy sauce. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into small meatballs about the size of a walnut and place them on a plate.
  3. Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides.
  4. Remove the browned meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet add honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and garlic. Stir and heat until the sauce begins to gently bubble.
  6. In a small bowl mix the cornstarch and water. Pour it into the skillet and stir until the sauce becomes thick and glossy.
  7. Return the meatballs to the skillet and gently toss them in the honey garlic sauce until fully coated.
  8. Let the meatballs simmer for several minutes so the sauce becomes sticky and flavorful.
  9. Spoon warm cooked rice into bowls and top with the honey garlic meatballs.
  10. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Add chili flakes or grated ginger to the sauce for extra flavor. Serve with steamed vegetables like broccoli or snap peas for a balanced meal.
