Method
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil, then add the ground beef. Cook while breaking it apart until browned and no pink remains.
- Add chopped onion to the skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until soft and lightly golden.
- Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture. Stir well so the flour coats the meat evenly.
- Slowly pour in the milk while stirring. Let the mixture simmer for 3 to 5 minutes until thick and creamy.
- Lower the heat. Add cream cheese and shredded cheddar. Stir until melted and smooth.
- Season with salt and black pepper. Taste and adjust as needed.
- Butter the bread and toast in a pan until golden on both sides.
- Spoon the creamy beef mixture onto the toasted bread. Serve warm.
Notes
Use ground beef with a bit of fat (like 80/20) for better flavor. Stir the sauce frequently while simmering to prevent sticking. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of milk; if too thin, simmer a bit longer. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat with extra milk.
