Ingredients

Filling
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper or to taste
Pastry
  • 2 sheets puff pastry thawed if frozen
  • 1 egg beaten, for brushing

Equipment

  • Baking tray
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, chopped onion, garlic, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and pepper until just combined.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  4. Divide the beef mixture and place it down the center of each pastry sheet.
  5. Roll the pastry over the filling and seal the edges. Cut into even pieces.
  6. Place the sausage rolls seam side down on the baking tray. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Notes

If the pastry becomes too soft while assembling, refrigerate it briefly. You can add dried herbs like thyme or rosemary for added flavor. These rolls freeze well after baking—just reheat in the oven when needed.
